‘PA to cancel all security commitments to Israel’ - Jerusalem Post
Al Quds al-Arabi reports that PLO, Fatah plan to push for a unilateral abrogation of all Oslo and Road Map commitments, including fighting terror, in response to failed peace talks.
This was the plan of the PA all along, to abrogate the Oslo accords. Unfortunately, the US is now aware of this, but during the times the US was pressuring Israel, the US was in the purple haze of the PA wanting peace. The reality was that the PA wanted leverage over Hamas, and then it was going to try to dismantle Oslo.
While the US was frantically trying to get a building freeze, the PA was doing an end run, that if enough countries do not recognize Oslo, then Oslo doesn’t exist. And so many South American countries are acting as if Oslo never existed.
The next step would be for the PA to declare itself an independent state, as it could have done all along. The questions will be, what about the war with Hamas, what will happen to the Jewish cities built in Area C, and will the UNRWA cease to exist? Will other nations feel compelled to give the massive amounts of foreign aid as in the past?
Needless to say, all of these factors are the reason the US talks have broken down, with no hope of restarting unless there is a clear direction events seem to be going. There is no clear direction.
Suffice it to say, any claims of Israeli apartheid, although wrong, are now completely worthless.
Perhaps most interesting is that other nations feel that they can interfere with American led diplomacy. This is another story for another day.
